The currently spec'd and available oil filter for the Toyota V8 that is in the LS430 is a pretty small oil filter. Its the exact same filter specified for the current Toyota V6. The small size of the filter concerns me a little so I will not exceed 5k OCI on the V8.
Actually the filter spec'd for our Rx330 is the 90915 YZZD1 which is a puny thing compared to the decent sized YZZD3. They both interchange/fit but it is hard to get a removal tool on the larger filter in the small space provided for the V6.
Manual says 5k so I go usually 6, this next one tomorrow at 6500 with synthetic, if busy 7k rarely. No real scientific but it usually looks copper color still at 6k with mostly hwy miles. I bring in oil get change and wash for 11 bucks and I buy the filter from Yota dealer.
At 152k I use a 1/2 quart a change. Slight bearly audible upper end rattle 6-7 times a year on hot days otherwise tight as a drum(I wonder if it is the tensioners they did not change I will get done next t belt).

Monkeybutt - My mistake, I stand corrected on saying the filters are the same for V6 and V8, I double checked, have both filters sitting on my desk as I type this, - the V8 filter is exactly as you posted. D3 spec'd for the V8 is same diameter as the D1 but about 3/4-1 inch taller than the D1 spec'd for the V6. I will check clearance on my HL next time I do an oil change and use the larger D3 filter if there is room to get it in.
This is a very relevant question for me because I still change my oil every 3000 miles, probably because it's a habit. Below is a link to an article that I recently came across that is making me second guess my old habits

Jabberwock,
I got a few D1s left over in my stash, but I have a case of D3s coming in the mail. So, like you, I think I'll try using the bigger filter on the RX330 again. I kinda remember taking off the bigger one was more of a hassle as I am lazy and work from the top instead taking off the bottom shield.
