Those who have ordered OEM brake pads
Really stupid question, but I will ask here before I look stupid to the dealer LOL. When ordering OEM brake pads, front and rear, in red boxes, do you get anything else other then four brake pads, loose in each box? Like shims or anything? I just ordered brake pads and received two boxes, and it was just the brake pads, loose jingling in the boxes, with nothing else. Not even a paper to keep them from shaking around. Should this be? Or is this exactly what should come in the box, simply brake pads? Thanks
Thanks guys! And what nice pads they are. They look so much more serious than those from my maxima. BIG difference! But then again- big difference in cars too. LOL Thanks for the quick responses!
Just the pads. It's okay that they're jingling around. You don't need to replace the stainless steel shims despite what the FSM says. Just clean them up and reapply new disc brake grease. I've seen two types of disc brake grease. The good kind that comes with new shims is a gunmetal gray (looks like titanium anti-seize particles inside). I think it only comes in a big toothpaste tube for $30-40. The cheap kind from the autoparts store is a creme color for $1.
BTW, you need two of those brake pad wear indicator retainer clips for the right front and right rear wheels. They get bent up when removing them. IIRC, they're around $6/each. Also, you need a small C-clamp (got mine at Sears) to compress the pistons. Without one, it's dang near impossible to compress them without damaging them (they are aluminum) and/or lots of cursing.

agreed, did my front and rear brakes two days ago. I did not need to replace the sensor clips, nor the shims, and the pistons are compressable with a simple long screwdriver levered. The fronts have two pistons on each side so you'll need two screwdrivers, otherwise the other piston just pops out when you press its twin.
I suggest putting the old pad back in and then leveraging a screw driver against that instead of directly against the face of the pistons. Be sure to remove cap of the brake fluid reservoir to give the fluid somewhere to go if the fluid has been topped up as the pads wear. You may actually need to remove some BF if there is no room in the reservoir.

You're def gonna have to change those sensor clips at some point,. The dealerships does it everytime you get new pads. Oh and FYI anyone taking short cuts on the breaks. Off brand Advanced/Auto ZOne/ Oreilys brake pads will squeak when reversing stick to OEM.
Not sure who makes em but when I priced em they where 200 a pop for rotors. Got Centec(or something) from Tire rack for 70 bucks front and 50 rear each matched with Lexus pads and flawless. Yota dealer installed em grease, clips whatever 189 each front and rear including pads, plus cost of rotors.
- Break Pads from Sewell with CL discount (original Toyota/Lexus brand)
- Timing Belt, Drive Betl, water pump - Ebay item # 370507677908 - those are the same Lexus dealer uses.
- Rotors order from Advance Auto Parts (order online and pick up in the store). Part #s are: YH200385 & YH200386. Place multiple orders of $100+ For each order put coupon code CCABIN which will take off $40.
For installation I have found on Craigslist a technitian from local Toyota dealer who did the install of everything for $400 including break system flash and cooling flash. He provided chemicals. I had him install the sway bar from Sewell at the same time.
