Default LS430 Nav sporadic malfunctions

My navigation system is on the fritz. When I go to enter a destination into the ADDRESS area it accepts all the input in the touchpad fields. But when I touch ENTER it no longer (as it usually does) goes to the searching progress display, but instead returns to a now darkened DESTINATION window that has the buttons for ADDRESS, MARKED, PREVIOUS DESINATIONS,POINTS of INTEREST etc. I have tried turning off the car and then restarting in the hopes of rebooting the nav computer to solve the issue. The I ACCEPT disclaimer appears, I accept, and then the current location map is displayed correctly. However when I press the DESTINATION button on the nav cluster, the darkened DESTINATION window displays again offering no active buttons from which to choose. If I drive for a period of time leaving the darkened window displayed as I do it eventually comes back up illuminated with available options. Failing disc drive? Short in the central communication wiring harness? Experts got any ideas??

Try unhooking a negative cable from the battery for 30min. This will reset you navi.
Be advised, you will lose all your marked points, destinations, radio stations etc.

Did you update the navigation system?
