Cool Rear Shade issue

My rear shade functions fine. Problem is the plastic cord that holds the screen to the top horizontal frame sticks out on one side (DS).

Does anyone know how to fix this? Looks like I'll first need to remove the rear shade assembly to attempt to re-stuff the cord??

Anyone ever experienced this condition? Fixed it?

Can you not "stuff" the cord back in while the shade is up?

Have not experienced that problem. But I have removed the sun shade before. Its not all that difficult to do but its not fun and takes some time.

Mine looks like the screen has some slack in the far upper drivers side, and an equal length of plastic cord hanging out from the passenger side, so it apparently isn't extra untrimmed cord.

Stuffing or feeding it back seems impossible from the fully stretched, or "up" position. Perhaps I can take the whole assembly out and fix it, but I wanted to avoid that if at all possible.

Any other ideas certainly welcome....

Good luck with that without pulling it completely out. There is always tension on the mesh from the spooling mechanism in the shade.

I just noticed the same thing on my 04 UL last week. A plastic rod sticking out of the right side about an inch. It wasn't there the week before, because I was waxing the rear window chrome trim.

With the screen up I just reached in and pushed the rod back into place. Went in easily and I'll just keep an eye on it.

Suggest you try this first.

My rear shade was inoperable when I purchased the car used with 35K miles on it. The rod was missing, and the dealer said they would have to replace the whole assembly -- $1200 for parts plus labor. Car out of warranty, so I used nylon ties to lash the screen to the frame. $.30 cens parts and no labor. Works fine.

I have experienced this problem a few times over 3 years. It's simple to just feed the white plastic dowel back into the shade. I had thought about putting a drop of crazy glue on the tip but as its not a big issue to rethread things I didn't bother.
