Default Smog sensor

When the car is on and not moving, if you press the AUTO button on the HVAC and hold for about three seconds, the "SMOG" screen comes on that you can adjust LO to HI. Does anyone know what this is LO HI for? I checked the manual and there is no mention of this. I found out this screen on this forum, but have not found what settings are.

Is it level of sensitivity (LO sensitivity HI sensitivity) or how much smog it allows before going refresh, so LO amount and it kicks on, or HI amount and it kicks on. I'm not in an overly smoggy area, so it's hard to test what it's doing.

I did read about this in the manual. It is the setting at which point the air recirculation switches from fresh outside air to recirculating the air within the cabin. I do have a hard time understanding which setting increases the sensitivity. Does LO mean less sensitivity so it kicks in later or less smog required to go into recirculating mode sooner? So I guess in essence, I have the same question but no answer.

My interpreatation of what is says about it in the manual (it is in there...) is exactly what Milan posted. Lo is less sensitivity,Hi is more.

Would you happen to have the page number that it's in the manual? When looking up "smog" in the index, it gets to page that only describes what the sensor does, not how to set it.

If the actual wording is "It is the setting at which point the air recirculation switches from fresh outside air to recirculating the air within the cabin." then that's still ambiguous at best. So if I set to LO, it would mean to me that the polution level should be low and then it will kick to refresh.

Thanks.

See pg 244-245 of the manual. You can change the sensitivity from -3 to +3, or low to high. High increases smog sensitivity, which means the system will revert to recirculation quicker as the outside smog level increases. I have found that this really works.

Thanks, will switch it to HI then. I had already cleaned the filter per the writeup on this forum and it was quite easy. Upon reading the cleaning was when I came upon someone mentioned the set up for the sensitivity.

Thanks guys (and maybe gals).
