Default Engine Oil Time vs Mileage

Just purchased a 2001 Ls430 with 75500 miles on it. The previous one owner had all maintenance done at the dealership since he purchased it new (verified via MyLexus). He used the vehicle very lightly over the last few years (e.g., 2000 miles or so per year) since he spent part of the year outside the country. The last service was 2500 miles and 2 years ago. Do I need to change the oil immediately due to the possibility of oil viscosity breakdown from time?

Besides providing lubrication and viscosity, modern oils contain mixture of additives designed to protect the internal parts of the engine and prevent corrosion from the acids and water that get in the old oil. The additives age and potentially break down over time. I'd change the oil immediately to a good high quality full synthetic to get fresh oil into the motor. I'd also change the brake fluid - Brake fluid absorbs water over time as it ages regardless of use and even if it looks clear- brake fluid should be changed/flushed every 3 years. I'd careful inspect PS, trans, and radiator fluids - change if the color and smell of those fluids indicate excessive wear, contamination , or age.

Yes though synthetic is not mandatory it is nice if ya have the cash though dino oil works fine if changed as directed. The timing belt should be changed if not done as well as the fluids described above if never done. Plan on spending some money.
