Default 17" wheel vs 18" wheel

I have a 2006 LS430 Sports Edition. Do you know which wheel would be better between 17" and 18" RIMS? I think the car was originally equipped with 18" RIMS but were replaced with 22" Chrome RIMS. Will it be bad if I replace the 22" RIMS with the 17" regular wheels? Thanks,

Chris

The Sport Edition came with the 5-spoke 18" rims.

I don't think anything on the Sport Edition suspension would preclude the use of OEM 17" wheels, but I may be wrong.

You can use the 17s, but why would you want to? I have them and they are ugly as sin.

they are ugly for sure, but still provide a more comfortable ride than the 18's. I see people from time to time wanting to swtich to the 17's.

I am one of those who prefers a smaller rim for ride comfort reasons. I recently traded my 2000 Infiniti Q45 anniversary edition (OEM 17 inch rims with a 55 profile tire) for my 2006 LS 430 with 18 inch OEM rims with 45 profile tires. While the Lexus is much quieter, the Infiniti was better over rough pavement. My son has my old 1998 Infiniti Q45 base model with 16 inch rims with 60 profile tires and that is even more absorbent than my 2000 Q45.

I purchased the LS 430 wanting the ultimate in noise suppression and ride comfort and I am strongly leaning to the idea of down sizing my rims. I am contemplating 17 or even 16 inch rims. I will get some idea this winter as I have my old set of snow tires on 16 rims originally purchased for the Q45 which I will be fitting to the LS430. It will be interesting to see what sort of ride comfort difference I see. If it is dramatic then I will probably look around for some used LS 430 16 rims. However, I would be interested to hear other reviews on 16 versus 17 versus 18 inch rims and ride comfort based on individual experiences as maybe moving down to 17 inch is sufficient.
