Default 17 vs 18 inch wheels?

Hi all

Selecting rims for winter time but I had a few questions. I will likely be getting my rims from costco. I selected the rims from the pdf file from the website:

http://www.costco.ca/wcsstore/Costco...revised%29.pdf

I can either choose the s5 17 or 18 inch for my 2013 lexus is 250 awd

CW514059 (17 inch) or CW514065 (18 inch)

I had some questions:
1. What are the benefits of having larger rims vs smaller rims aside from appearance?
2. Has anyone ever used these rims before and what do they think of them?
3. Are these rims compatible with the lexus is 250 awd and will they be compatible the michelin ice x 3 tires?

Thanks

I would never go 17" (look way too small).
I think 18" is stock, I'd stick with that. Those wheels are not the best looking in my opinion.
Id buy nice looking aftermarket wheels (browse through wheel thread) for the summer, and use your stock wheels to throw the winter tires on.

Unless they changed the wheel size, all IS250 AWD were 17". Obviously, 17" winter tires are cheaper than 18". Seems pointless getting 18" wheels for your winter set.

So other that price and looks there appears to be little advantage to 18 inch rims?

Also does any one know how I can tell the difference between multi fit vs non multfi fit rims?
