Found this excellent forum today and registered immediately to ask this question...

My LS430 '01 is equipped with the awesome Mark Levinson sound package. Lately there is a delay from when I turn on the audio system until there is sound. The delay can be everything from 1 second to several minutes - sometimes it is dead silent for a day or two...

Everything is working OK - touch display, AC, Navigation (including voice), CD... only there is no sound. Funny thing is that the "MID" tone control in the "Sound" menu is missing - when the sound comes on, the MID control appears on the display!

According to my local Lexus service there has been a few cases when they have replaced the sound amplifier (located in the boot). This amplifier cannot be repaired and must be replaced which cost a fortune...

Has anyone heard about this before? Maybe a loose cable or something simple?

 

Hi and welcome. Yes there is a common problem with ml system: sub, amp, speakers rip.
Unfortunately you can't repair an amp but you can search for a used one on eBay.
