I use it regularly, but not for sporty driving. Mainly when I'm behind a car closing too fast and don't want to hit my brakes.... use it to slow down. Plus when I spy a speed trap.

Pet peeve of mine is people on the highway tapping their brakes all the time. I guess I don't want to be one of those guys

I use it all the time when driving in heavy traffic. It helps keep the car in line enough to use significant engine braking and without having to stop-and-go. I wouldn't recommend using it for downshifting or anything sporty, unless you want to risk wearing the clutches on your transmission. Although this doesn't appear to be an issue at all with the LS.

DUDE so i've only agreed with 2 peoples comments thus far. i am really having a hard time thinking that there are so many people that don't use it or don't want to use it. drum role..... the 2 people that seem to know how to drive spiritedly (you like how i did that?) are davegs4 and nc356... man i think you two summed it up pretty good. i use mine pretty frequently and about 90% of my using it is for downshifting. i also hate to see brake lights on the highway (so freakin annoying) so i use it to gradually down shift in these instances. i also use to down shift when cornering or driving aggressively (i mean spiritedly). i rarely use it to upshift at all unless i'm on some back roads that are twisty and this is usually like 5%, the other 5% is a rare just having fun moment on a friday night or something, but yeah for pure acceleration i think it is not so functional and a little slower than the automatic trans it self is.

i love to use it for downshifts because then you already know what gear your in when exiting a turn. if you don't it selects the gear and usually the wrong gear and then you have to floor it and then it drops down to like second and makes it all torquey and then my wife gets pissed. but if you drop it down to say 3 on your own you already know how much gas to give it since it is holding the gear and you can shave off so much time on your commutes this way... oh wait i'm not the only one who feels like his commute is a time attack course am i??? just kidding, so calm down all you slow ls430 drivers

i did however just have to replace my rear air susp with coilovers since my rear suspension went out,, can't figure out how the hell that would ever happen, but it is even more fun to use it combined with the new tightened suspension and low pro 19" tires. feels like an amg or 7/5 series beemer now.

btw i have done my own little field tests and in certain road conditions i have found that i personally can get noticeably better gas mileage by selecting the gear myself rather than the car... how is this i wonder???

I used it quite a few times for fun and to avoid getting a speeding ticket. I used it for the 1st time on my 07 over the weekend, and the two extra gears takes some getting use too. It was again fun but not all the time, not to mention you can only enjoy with few cars on the road b/c it sucks in stop in go traffic.
