Default Thinking about a portable GPS - where do you mount it?

I should say at the outset that I know very little about GPS system but I do have an 04 Premium and I'm thinking about a portable CPS system. I would like to keep the car looking good so I'm wondering - where do all of you mount your units? I would like to place it so I can see it but also type directions in if needed. Would a dash mount be better than a windshield mount?

Anything else I should look for?

The following thread is about the IS but it has photos I posted of a portable GPS mounted on Pro.Fit brackets in my 00 LS400 and my wife's Camry: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ce-please.html

Pro.Fit has similar brackets for the LS430 and especially small, unobtrusive ones for Garmin Nuvi. The GPS is easy to reach by the radio and not very visible from outside the car. We remove them from the brackets only when we need them in a rental car or when it gets very cold or very hot.

Not for my LS, but I've always mounted my portable GPS units on the middle of the dash with a "permanent" dash mount. I don't like the window mounts for fear of the suction cup popping off mid-trip and dropping the GPS.

They sell wire clips also so you can better run the GPS wires when you're hard-wired for charging. Otherwise on battery supply you won't have any wires.
