Default Bluetooth Question

At times, I hit the phone button and everything works fine - dial from directory, dial from keyboard, etc. Other times, I hit the phone button, and all the displays are grayed out and the only call that can be made is the last number dialed. I have the phone in my right pants pocket each time. I was thinking that the nav decided that my phone is suddenly out of range, but it still makes a call to the last number. Suggestions?

Unfortunately, the only suggestion is to complain to Lexus like everyone else... The system will only let you dial your speed dials or the last number called when the car is in motion. Its a PITA and everyone complains about it. There are some aftermarket products to override this that are available though. There may also be a combination of hidden touch screen commands that will unlock your year vehicle. I haven't researched these for the LS430, so I can't offer any assistance with that.

Here's the most common system people use to unlock the system when in motion:

The same goes for the NAV system. Most functions are grayed out when in motion and this system will unlock them.

Thanks, Jim. I missed that in the manual. It makes sense, in a nanny sort of way. But, it causes more distraction trying to figure out why it's not working as expected as your driving. It may be a reason to go back to V5.1 and see if the override works.

Others have had success burning their own DVD's that incorporate the newer version with a single file from the old version that allows the hidden touch screen override. Only problem with this technique I believe is that you have to enter the hidden override each time you start the vehicle.
