I own a 2001 LS 430 (by the way: nice ride ). But I got troubles with the audio system: when I start the engine and the audio system turns on, the speaker at the drivers seat doesn't work (not always, but very often). Then I increase the volume and suddenly the speaker starts working. But even if it works it sometimes breaks down after minutes or hours - then I do the same procedure: increasing the volume manually...
At my garage they checked all the connections between radio and speakers and couldn't find a failure, they said everything is ok.

What could be the reason for this? Could this be a failure at the amp, the speaker itself or the radio? Is anyone here who had the same problem?

 

Well, its quite obvious that everything is NOT okay. I would look a little farther for a more determined shop. did they check the actual voice coil of the speaker? Did they pull off the door panel and actually get at the speaker? DID they disconnect the speaker and reconnect, making sure that they covored all the bases? It sounds like a bad connection to me, but it could very well be anything else you described. Continuity tests need to be made.
