**** NEVERMIND THIS REQUEST, see 2nd post below ****

I have come across a possible sweet deal from my wife's company. They're selling a 2006 LS430 w/ 68k miles for $21k. These are officer's cars at the company and are generally very well kept and usually loaded to the hilt.

The color choice isn't my first (Moonlight Pearl/Cashmere), but if it happens to have the Ultra Luxury Package it could be a great deal (I think).

Since the car is out of state (NC) I can't go and look at it - they don't post pics or anything of the car for employees to see or anything. And they keep it anonymous so you don't know who owned the car (I couldn't contact the owner for details)

Is there a way to find out anything based on the VIN (which I have)??

NEVERMIND - found out thru peeps at her work that the owner beats on his cars. Heck, the guy backed out of his garage with a door open on a former car! No matter what this car has I know I don't want it.

Carfax shows 18 records, which seems high even for maint. items.

Oh well - not meant to be.

I just had the same concern. I found a Lexus Parts Dept and they pulled the original sticker info with the basic package and the upgrades. Give this a shot.

Doesn't matter at this point, but I think the VIN will tell you which package it had (Ultra, Custom, Modern, etc.) but it won't tell you if it had any "standalone" options like 18" wheels, spoilers, etc. Only the original window sticker, or Lexus sales receipt, will tell you what it came with out-the-door.

I know that BMW can tell you what options came on a car by entering the VIN into their database (the VIN doesn't have the info but the database does). In fact, it will show the MSRP as well. Maybe Lexus has a similar database searchable by VIN.

Yes, by VIN the Lexus Dealer can tell you exactly what the car left a dealershp with. What I was saying is that the VIN itself will not tell you exactly what the car had. So say you bring the VIN to DMV, they can tell you the year, make, model, etc. but the manufacturer specific info are not known.

Just call Lexus corporate, give them VIN and they'll tell you what package and what the car left with.

I don't believe you can decode Lexus VINs to determine what trim level is on the car. You can probably determine if the car is an LS or ES, etc. Like others have said, any Toyota dealer can look up the trim level and options by entering the VIN into one of their systems. I looked at a LS430 at a stand-alone Toyota dealer (no Lexus franchise) and they were able to provide me with a full list of options on the car from their system.
