when i give the ls a good bath i take hot water with tide and a clean towel

dip towel in bucket with hot water and tide mixed into it give it a good rub do 6-10 inch at a time then have another clean and dry towel to dry the seat belt. this has been the best way for me to clean my headliner and rug and have a nice clean and nice smelling car

I have the ecru (off-white) interior and so dirt shows up quite well. My belts were pretty dirty and so I got the car detailed. The guy used a steam cleaner to clean the belts and they turned out wonderful.

I cleaned a set of dirty seatbelts once in a CRX I had. I rolled them out all the way (they normally won't be dirty beyond a certain point) and put a clamp on them to keep them from retracting. I then took a 2 gallon bucket with strong detergent and hot water, immersed the belt in the solution and scrubbed, then rinsed a couple of times. For the part that is so close to the mounting point that it wouldn't go into the bucket, I used a tooth brush for the cleaning/rinsing. After cleaning and rinsing I vacumed dry with a shop vac, then left them extended for a day or so to fully dry. The belt material cleans up very well and looked new afterwards.

+1 ^^^

Except I unbolted them at the base - rolled them outside, closed the door on them.

Now outside the car I had a helper extend them and used a pressure washer to blast out the dirt.

There are "seat belt cleaning" products out there. One is from PRO car beauty online
C-28 SEAT BELT CLEANER AND SPOT REMOVER.

But I suggest that you go to autopia.org and check their reviews or post your question on one of their forums.

The new Tide sticks were great for grease spots from getting caught in the door hinge.

Default Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions! Will try the Tide when the weather gets a little warmer. Jim
