Wink VSC message

What does the VSC & check engine message mean? I searched for information, but could not find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Oil change back 500 miles. 127,000 miles on car. White pearl w/ecru. changed timing belt, water pump and serp belt at 115,000 miles. this problem started within the last 10k miles.

It can mean a lot of things. Usually, it is an engine fault that leads to VSC cancellation as well. Scanning for actual fault codes would be a good start.

I had my mechanic do the code, and he said it was the oxygen sensor and catalytic causing the problem. This seems unconnected to the VSC.

When the engine light is triggered it will automatically set off the VSC light. Replace the bad Oxygen sensor as this is a common problem with mileage like yours. I doubt the converter is bad. Once that is done, clear the engine light and wait to see if it comes back on (which I doubt)

It seems wild for a VSC message to refer to a bad oxy sensor, but I will get one installed and hope for the best.

Thanks for the info.

I think the rationale is that the VSC system requires the drivetrain to be working correctly. It makes sense if one keeps in mind that the VSC has control over power output.

Good Luck with the repair.

I had this on my car a month ago. It was a bad O2 sensor and the VSC wasn't working. The dealer explained to me that if the CEL is on for any reason, the traction control shuts off.

You need to change the O2 sensor. If you can take it somewhere (cheap or free) to get the codes scanned, it'll tell you exactly which sensor it is. Normally it's bank 2I believe.

Just happened to me. Dealer said it was the catalytic converter that was bad. Think if I replace the O2 sensor everything will be fine?

Bungeebob, did your problem get fixed with the replacement of an O2 sensor?

I'm assuming its the O2 sensor after the cats, correct?

If so, I'll just replace both of mine while I'm at it

^^ is your car showing a CEL? why don't you try to find out which sensor it is by getting the codes pulled? Autozone does it for free.

Lexus already did it for me.

P0430 which means the left bank catalytic failure or something. My car has 98k on it.

There are four oxygen sensors altogether. Two upstream of the catalytic converters and two downstream. The upstream catalytic converters usually fail first. They often wear out by time more than by mileage. If one is bad then I'd just go ahead and replace the other one because they're both probably near the end of their life expectancy. As they get near the end of their life they can cause poor fuel economy due to bad readings (lean fuel condition) being sent to the engine control unit. And this can be before diagnostic codes are generated.
