Default Price for 2005 LS430

I'm finally shopping for my first LS430. I found a 2005 (silver/black) with the Modern Luxury Package at 42,000 miles. The dealership (not Lexus) wants $28,500 firm. Is this price a bit high?

There does not seem to be much inventory out there. The Lexus dealers are asking at least $5K more for the same model.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I bought mine for $24,200 with 48,000 mile blue with custom saddle color interior. Got it two months ago from Craigslist. Very happy with the car. If You like it buy it.

Is this any old dealer, or Autolenders? Just curious since I see $28500 and price firm, plus you're in NJ.

Looking in DFW area we found that the Lexus dealers bought all the really good used LS430s at the auction to sell as certified cars on the Lexus used car lot. They have high demand and can sell way more cars than they get in trade. The auction cars that Lexus did not buy, and that went to misc dealers, usually had multiple issues - accident repairs, high miles, beat-up interiors, multiple owners, etc. I searched for 6 months for a 04-06 very low mile, mint condition, LS430 with premium package only - I did not want the Toyota Nav or the ML. Very tough to find.

In DFW area, the Lexus dealers were selling used 430s at a premium but they seemed to have the nicer, no issue cars. Lexus offered the 3 year certified warranty which to me has about $2500 value and is a worthwhile investment for a high dollar used car. In the end I chose to pay about $3-4k premium at a Lexus dealer for my car but got a certified, mint cond 06 with 14.5k miles on it that was a local trade with known documented Lexus maint history. I am very happy that I bought the certified car from Lexus and I was very happy with the Lexus dealer buying experience. Lexus really is amazing about customer satisfaction.

Yes, it is from Autolenders (I live in South Jersey, near Philly). They were asking $28,999 for this car, but was able to negotiate an additional $1,000 off for a purchase price of $27,999 (as I purchased 2 cars from them in the past and have sent a number of customers their way). It just seems a bit high for a car with over 40,000 miles.

Also, this market area seem to demand a premium for the LS430's. I'm wondering if I should expand my search to other states, but I know my wife would be opposed to this.

Any suggestions?

My advice if you can swing it, get a certified car from Lexus or get a 2006 that still has some base Factory warranty left on it. Or factor in $2500 or so to buy an extended warranty to protect yourself.

I was told by my service advisor the extended warranty wouldnt be worth it for an LS430. He says he rarely see's them come in after their factor warranty expires... lets keep my fingers crossed.

I was the market for a getting a LS and went there first for that exact car and there was a deposit already on the car.....so I ended up leaving.....there cars are clean but dealing with them isn't always that easy....I ended up getting a LS from a private seller....

Factor in that CPO is basically a $2000-2500 extended warranty. I think Autolenders has a 3 year/75000 total mile warranty for like $1700 or so, that pretty much covers the same Lexus CPO items. You can check that out too. I would say to try to negotiate for a lower finance (if you financed) rate than just pure dollar up front.

Have others found this to be true? That is, less than, say, $1000 in total non-warranty repairs from 50K - 100K miles?
