is there a way to disable TCS (not VSC) on an 01 LS430? i don't think there's a button or switch anywhere for it. i DID search but didn't find anything.
TCS is traction control system (keeps tires from spinning out). VSC is Vehicle Stability Control which helps keep the car from... this:
VSC detects under or overstearing it will activate and take action.
For over-stearing it will generally dethrottle the engine and apply braking to the front wheel outside of the "skid", or if you're already on the brakes it will "unbrake" the inside wheel. With understearing/plowing it will apply both rear brakes dethrottle the engine.
These are, will be, only momentary actions and will generally be over, having successfully corrected the circumstance, or not, by the time your mind realizes the VSC alarm has tripped..
VSC is really just an add-on feature to ABS & Trac, once you have those all you need is a yaw sensor and a stearing wheel rotational position sensor. Oh, and one hell of lot of additional firmware
I don't know about the '01, but on my '04 there is a button next to the rear power sunshade that is Trac/Off and when I press it, a light on the dash "Trac/OFF" lights up. When off, the car accelerates much better and the tires will slip if pushed too hard. With the Trac on, the system also retards the gas to keep the tires from slipping and it always feels like there is engine hesitation.
I really didn't think that there would be a VSC (safety) button but not TCS button because TCS/Off could be used to help acceleration as well as to spin the wheels in snow if you need to.
LSin75... it sounds to me like you got the two backwards... the only reason i say this is because my last 3 cars all had a vsc button and this is what allowed the wheels to spin, not tcs. at least it was this way on my past lex/infiniti & toyota.
yeah i know what they stand for but my vsc was your tcs definition, weird.
i think they are all one in the same..
old gs and infiniti had vsc off, old ls has vsc off, current ls has trac off... i believe they all allow wheel slip on/off...
That is for your '01 correct? I'm pretty sure this "safety" issue was corrected with the later years because having the TRAC off I think is fine, because you're just spinning your wheels if you gas it too much, but VSC will mean understeering right into a wall.
Anyway, you're answered your own questions, and great pictures noting the '01+ and '04+ are different.
