Is there a problem with the bolts that you're replacing them? On the LS, the bolts don't have to be removed. Once you remove the cotter pin, and the retainer, the pads come right out. If you're just replacing to have new ones in as "preventive" measure, then that's fine, but no need to replace if you don't have to.
one of the techs at the local lexus dealership gave me some tips about doing the brakes. I explained since I'm an aircraft mechanic that I prefer to do the simple maint myself.
He said the bolts should be replaced cause they are tension bolts and be sure to torque them to either 90 or 95 ft-lbs! can't remember which but I remember giving him the look of disbelief. that's when he explained the bolts are tension bolts and that's why lexus recommends that they be replaced.
As a side note, local dealer wanted $162 for the brake pads, plus another $40 for the 8 bolts. Then I found the same pads INCLUDING all 8 bolts and shipping for the same price at:
The LS430 service manual shows a torque value of 81 ft-lbs for the two caliper bolts. Interestingly this is more than the torque value shown for the wheel which is 76 ft-lbs.
changed the pads and did not need to touch the bolts,, such an easy car to change,, took me 25 minutes and I'm 68 years old,, removing and replacing the tire took the most time,,
be sure to turn the wheels to offer the brake pads directly at ya,, sure makes it quicker to see and work on them,,
