Is there a write-up on these forums for a DIY throttle body cleaning? I used the search and couldn't find anything.

 

I just had my oil changed, timing belt and water pump replaced this weekend 102,000 miles by a friend who is a Lexus tech. I dropped my car off on Friday, got it back today and he said see you at 120K for the spark plugs and brakes. Man finally took care of the 90K service, I got that monkey off my back.

 

I know the feeling, woohhh...

The OP has 245k miles and previous t-belt was done at 150k so YES he should get his T-belt done... 30k service does not mean the car has 30K miles.

Jim Chow posted the best way to clean your throttle body. The only difference I would suggest is get " Air Intake Cleaner " as opposed to " Carb Cleaner " Carb cleaner is a stronger and if you spray it directly into the intake like Jim did on his old 4runner, you run the risk of ruining your O2 sensors. For the price difference, it's safe insurance.

For the T-belt, how mechanically inclined are you ? Your best bet is to pick up the service manual for your car. Not sure what year yours is but for my '04 volumes 1 and 2 are mainly for trouble shooting, volume 3 is the one that shows you how to service the vehicle. If you want to save money, just buy volume 3.

I would personally change the t-belt, water pump, sepentine belt, spark plugs, thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses at the same time. Personally, I would also change the t-belt tensioner, t-belt pulley, front main seal, cam seals ( this is hard and may not be for the back-yard mechanic ). You will also need 2 gallons of the premixed long life toyota coolant (pink ), as Toyota does not sell the full strength version like their older Red coolant.
