Do you want to update the whole system as in replace the existing unit, or to upgrade the map version? If you're talking the DVD, your 2001 should be either generation 2 or 3, and latest map version is 8.1. Your dealer should have it for about $300 and installation (about 5 min.) another $60 or so.
If you want to buy and then install yourself, do a search for NAV upgrade and there is a posting, with pictures, of what to do. Very easy to follow and do.
