Question Help Needed with Navigation Upgrade

I have a 2004 LS430 and a 2001 LS430 both with the Nav/Lev option. Recently there was a new DVD released for the '04 navigation as a warranty upgrade. I installed it in the '04 without a hitch. Then I figured I'd use the old '04 DVD to upgrade my '01. Upon putting the newer disk in the '01 player, the screen said it could not read the disk. I re-tried several times with no success and put the old disk back in. It now is saying the original disk cannot be read either. I recall hearing sometime back that you cannot revert to an older disks. Is this true? Is there a reset? or is the '04 disk not compatible with the '01 nav??? I'd appreciate any advise to get the '01 back up and running with either disk.

Thanks

Kort

I'm just beginning to research upgrading my ver 1 on my 2002 LS430. I have read on several sites that once you upgrade from ver 1 to a newer version yoiu can not go back. I don't know the reasoning for this as it would seem to simply be replacing one DVD woith another. Not true though. I couldn't find anything here, but if you go to the links for say Sewell Lexus there is that info that once you upgrad yoiu can't return. I am preparing to buy the latest version for my car. I think I will make a copy of the new DVD and put that copy in so as to protect the original. Good luck.

oh man kort, that's a very bad idea..... the 04 ls430 has the new generation nav, the 4th gen, which has a lot of new stuff like voice recognition. it's completely new and totally different from the one used before.... if you put the disc in the 01 it's going to mess up everything.

if i were you i would just take the car to dealership with the original disc in it, just tell them it stops working somehow

You can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, reconnecting it and then inserting the '01 DVD.
