Overdrive noise
Hello all. I have an 02 LS430 ultra with 77k miles. (bought it at 73k).
When the car shifts into overdrive I can hear a whining noise in the driveline. It is most noticable at 40-45mph and I assume it is in the transmission because I can shift it into drive and put the car under similar load (light-moderate) and it is silent.
Also, much more noticable in very cold weather.
Anyone ever hear of this issue or am I the only lucky one?
Thanks.

Have you checked the fluid level? When was the fluid last changed? I would start by changing the transmission and differential fluids if you don't know when they were last changed. The Owners Manual lists the recommended fluids and change intervals.
