oil change is the same from a $2000 Chinese car to the $2 millions Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang.

Drain plug and a filter.

oil capacity is 5-6 quarts
Just buy 6 quarts, put in 5 and half first and fill it up to the proper level.

The owner manual said 4.8 quarts.

I put in 5 quarts and my car is full.

Are you thinking of a different car since you got so many?

My cars always take 5.5 at least,
MY last LS430, my GS4, SCs... MY LX470 took at least 7! Havn't done my new LS430 yet, I wanna do the kit first.
So now I just automatically put 5.5 minimium in.
Maybe I always let it drain 15 min so I got more oil out?

Every 5000 for conventional oil. LS430 takes 4.7 or so with filter. Surprisingly, the GS takes about a quart more (according to manufacturing specs).

TO the OP, theres not much to it. Just as a note, you no longer have to take off the entire undercarriage tray to access the oil filter like in previous models. There is a small cut out section they can be opened independently to provide access to the filter (Im glad lexus finally did this).

I strongly suggest you go with a reputable filter, non of that fram stuff.

Now that you and GRAND_LS 4 mentioned it, I remembered our GS300 takes 5.8 quarts.

But the LS430 is 4.8, I put 5.0 in and is full. I don't know if 5.5 is bad for it, you might want to double check that.

That new undercarriage tray you speak of, will it bolt up to my 03 LS430 so that I can take advantage of the independent cut out?

You should already have it on your '03. I have it on my '02GS, and '04LS. I was referring to much older model Lexus'.

Are you sure you dont have a cut out?

OK, I guess I do have it! It's a little cutout that you unbolt and then fold back and allows access to the filter but if you don't remove the whole tray the oil runs all over the place via the tray. At least that's what happened the last time I did it that way.
And the Lex filter costs more than the Fram but it IS better - buy 'em on-line and several at a time and they'll end up costing less.

What interval for synthetic oil? Our dealer says 7000 miles. Do you all agree?

Depending on the brand, and type of filter, but I'd say 7000 is a good number if your using a high quailty filter.

How would the oil run all over the place? As long as you bend it open (they placed a crevice in the plastic to allow this) while removing the filter and reinstalling, which takes seconds, you wont have a problem.
