I made a backup copy of the dvd 7.1 i bought recently. Does anyone know why the system is not able to read the backup copy? Is there a step/process i have to do to get the system to recognize and initiate the dvd? Thanks in advance.

Not much you can do, it either does, or does not.

Do you know what brand was used? I've heard people experiencing problems with various brands. Verbatim seems to carry the best success rate.

I used Maxell. I'll give Vervatim a try. Thanks for the input.
Merry Christmas to all.

You just need to use good quality disk like Verbatium, though Memorex does work in a pinch. DVD+DL disk as its about 7.4GB in size. Drag and drop does work but I find it best to create it as an ISO image first, then burn that image.

yes, it's brand preferences on certain model. My 2001 LS430 - Gen2 work on most of the brand but my 2003 IS300 - Gen3 only working Verbatim (more picky). The only problem I have with Gen2 is it doesn't read the backup copy as well as the original. The Nav ECU on Gen2 take longer to read the backup copy. Hope this info will help. Happy Holiday

My 2001 LS would only read a backup copy 20% of the time (Verbatim)... must have book type set on burner... still, it was slow and wouldn't load maps on next town sometimes, wasn't worth the hassle. I bought a v.6.1 off eBay for $60 instead. I heard just the '01's have trouble with copied ones, even if they are copied right (Verbatim, book type set to DVD-ROM)

b8b, u r right. Mine do that same, no matter what the setting or brand I tried. It's the same problem. I just ended up using the original and use the backup copy on my IS300 without any problem.
