Is a smart key standard on 04 LS430's
Do all the 04's have the Smartkey access - meaning you do not need remove the key from your pocket to open and start the car? I test drove one and this was the case, but forgot to ask. They have a button on the driver's door handle and if the key is in your pocket and you are close to the car it will unlock when you touch this button. Also, you to not have to put the key in the ignition once in the car, just turn the area where you would put the key and it will start.
For me this is a MUST have feature and do not see it on any of the feature lists, so I hope it was standard. Thanks for input.

Just to clarify, you would touch the button on the door handle to LOCK the doors. There is a sensor pad on the back of each door handle to UNLOCK the door. If unlock the rears, it will unlock all 4 doors (as you are a chauffeur) , if you unlock the driver, only the driver door is open as that would be for safety reason so no other can jump into your car. I write this as when I first got the car, I too though the button on top lock and unlock and wondered why my passengers weren't able to get into the car when I can get in

I am confused. So if I have the key in my pocket and touch the driver door then only the drive door will unlock, but if I touch a rear door then all the doors unlock. Is this correct? Or is there a setting that can be configured for your key for this? Thanks for the help.
Also - how long have you had your UL (miles and time) and any problems?
Mike
mstrange, you are correct. I believe you can have the dealer program all the doors to unlock if you like.
I had mine for about 6 months now. No major issues, only went in for the intermittent noise from when the steering wheels automatically retracts/extends. Fixed under their TSB bulletin. My brother sat in my car for the first time, and he commented how quiet it is, almost like electric cars

Smart key wasnt exactly an option. It was first offered in January of 2004. Cars before didn't have it, and all the cars after did.

What is the brand/model of your rims?
Does the car have the smartkey option if the doors have the button on the handle and the spot for the key has a raised area to grab and turn? What is the best way to know. From me asking dealers many do not know what I am talking about.

Yes, if the doors have the button on the handles then the SmartAccess system is equipped on that car.
One other thing, the SmartAccess system can be toggled on or off by means of a switch in the driver's footwell area. You might need to turn that switch on first for the SmartAccess sytem to be activated.
