get maintenance reminder?
do you guys get a maintenance reminder in your cars, like the mercedes system?
i just saw one came on the small message screen this morning saying "maintenance required soon".
do u know whether it is a flexible service internal system like mercedes, or will the reminder just come up every 5000 miles?

In the '02 you press "Menu", then "Information", then "Maintenance" and you'll see you can set reminders, at whatever intervals you want, for almost any service work that needs to be done. Then a reminder will come up at the appropriate mileage/time.

The Lexus is more do before the true need in my opinion. The Mercedes is do at the point were it must be done which I like also. It would save alot of money if Lexus had a computer saying when the oil has been used to the point of needing to be changed now as opposed to a reminder that has you change the oil when you could do another 1,000 or 2,000 miles.

Reminders!
You have to put in the info everytime you do service on the 2001, it will let you know when a certain amount of miles and or date has occured that you or the dealer can set to remind you that youve driven 5,000 miles or 7,500 miles.
You did get brake wear warnings and low washer fluid warnings and low engine oil warnings as well. You dont get the same warnings that the Benz offers but, I do like the Lexus warning system as well. Its more about preventing before a problem can happen.
I had on average 11,000-12,000 miles between services on my Benz. It was cool having to only drive that car but, again I wonder if thats why the car has had issues in recent years. Anyway not a big deal as far as what car is best its like beauty, its in the eye of the beholder.
I like the reliability of Lexus so its why I buy there cars. The Benz is a great car but, reliability is a huge selling point for me. I cant lie if the Benz was more reliable I might have stayed with them but, Lexus made me come back after leaving for 2 years because the Benzes I owned had to many issues.

Hay, you made me think!
Do the new 2007-2008 LS460's have new reminder systems. The car has many features but I dont know all of them. I wonder what features that are in the LS460 that arent in the LS430. Food for thought, give me something my brain can eat, SOMEBODY!!!!

When I lived in Columbus, I'd get a message at service time to "Call Rich Kuhn at XXX-XXXX." That led me to believe that the service department could/would set a personalized reminder... IF THEY CARED!!!
