Default KYB decision - accessories needed?

BNR34 and Lavrishevo, I am going to pick up the KYB struts, coils and mounts. Are there additional parts, Boots, covers that also need to be ordered? Or factory parts linked that need to come out? (i.e... control arms, links, bushings..etc)

I called one of the 3 Lexus dealers in the Boston area and you wouldn't crap they were saying about the suspension and how it couldn't be switched to traditional for less then $6-8K !!! Complete BS!

Obviously this is a major decision so I'd like to be as knowledgable and prepared as I can be.

Very grateful!

Yes, the boots should be ordered as well. Forgot about those. They are mainly there for weather protection and considering where you are located it would be helpful.

Yeah, don't bother with the dealer on this one. They will be a total rip off. On my old LS400 I replaced the coils and struts / shock with KYB's and Tanabe springs. Lowered it about 2.5 inches. Anyway, parts cost me about $800 and labor was about $400.

For any OEM parts check out Lexus of South Atlanta Parts. The best dealer prices I can find.

Well it looks like I potentially might have an issue with my air suspension. I just installed the ASC-680 last week and have been driving on setting 5 for the front and setting 3 for the rear. Well today I noticed it kept trying to put air in the passenger rear air bag and that that side was sitting lower than the driver side rear. I then changed my setting to 5 in the front and 4 in the rear since it was already at that level. Now it only tries to put air in it every now and then. Not sure what the issue is but based on messing with it earlier I think that the height might be stuck at 4 and isn't willing to air up to 3. Any thoughts?

I can just share the fact that my spring system (meaning the air portion of the strut) acts the same way in the rear. Compressor tries to raise it, but it doesn't move past whatever mysterious setting where it wants to stay set. Still stays up off the lower limits quite well though. Allows me to drive while I figure out the best course of action.

The damping, however, does not function properly. Like a pogo stick...

Yeah now that I'm riding around on setting 5 and 4 it drives fine and doesn't try to put air in it anymore. Weird that it wouldn't go to 3 and stays at 4 just fine. I'm gonna take a look at it when I put the spacers on.

Are you currently running the ASC680 as well?

You might want to jack it up and have a look at the sensor arm also. I know the datatsystems is an easy install, but make sure you didn't try to go too low and mess something up. Usually whatever issues I had with the air were settled by jacking it up and the going onto a flat surface and doing the back and forth thing a few times. Hope all is well though with your ride.

The air controllers are nice but most say the prematurely cause the bags to fail.

I have changed my mind that I was going to replace the stock bags when they start to leak. I found a very lightly used set that I purchased on eBay. There is a slight risk buying used but with only 50K on them it was too tempting. Now watch me not have any issues for another 100K... Lol

Regarding the Air Shocks, Sewell Lexus seems to indicate 3 different part numbers depending on the year of the car.

01-02 = 4801050110
03 = 4801050120
04-06 = 4809050130

Any differences between them.

I would like to get the air shocks for the 04-06 and replace 2 of the air shocks in an 01. Are they compatible? i.e. will they mount and fit the same as the 01's. will the air suspension system play nice"?

Thanks.

I seriously doubt they are compatible. If they were, the part numbers would be the same. Check out Lexus of South Atlanta as well. They beat Sewell prices on a lot parts and if they are not you can always pit dealers against each other to get a better deal. I ended up buying a used set with only about 50k on them off eBay as backups in case mine go out. I was going to convert but for the money the used set was hard to pass up.

I was wondering the same thing as the struts from 04-06 are a few hundred cheaper for then the 01 struts.

My battery died and now my rear is up and my front not so much. Anyone else had this issue and if so how'd you fix it? This is the first time I have had issues really, it acted weird once, so I jacked it up and it went back but this is the first time it's stayed. HELP!! LOL...

Pull the data system out and replace your battery. Let the system reset. The rear height sensor could be malfunctioning as well.

DataSystem hadn't been in for a couple years, already replaced battery, damn thing is still up. Should I disconnect it again or disconnect the plugs to the air suspension module to allow reset?

Do a soft reset by disconnecting the negative for 30 seconds and reconnecting. Then try lowering and raising the suspension. If this does nothing then you need to take a look at the rear height sensor. It may have failed. Inspect the system closely for any damage or leaking.
