i have a wacky problem with my 01 UL with air ride controller. it has a mind of its own. i'd be driving on the freeway, then all of a sudden... the car would just lower itself automatically.... like to the ground. then at other times, the car would raise while i'm driving to work... to full height. now it does this thing where the front stays at its current height, but the rear raises to full height... making the car slanted. i don't know what the hell is going on. maybe it has something to do with the datasystems controller. if this keeps going on i might just switch to a coilover setup.

Default Mine is 2002 ls ul with 960034k air sus

lowered by sensors, but use high height button to bring to normal height and it rides great,a little stiffer in lowered position.still happy with it. Got my fingers crossed after reading all these coments.

If one were to convert there air suspension to coil..what would be the best way to go about it? any recommendation for the best and smoothest coils to best replicate the air ride? Thanks!

Rizo check FAQ and there is a thread on the first or 2nd page of the LS430 forum answering your question, browse a little & you'll find it

I had my right rear shock absorber replaced. I think this is the air suspension, right? (ihave a UL). It was like $1250 parts and labor to replace, but it was covered under my CPO warranty. The car drives SO much better now. SO SMOOTH over normal bumps I would avoid, and no left-right instability when going over severe bumps. LOVE my air suspension! The sport setting is also a LOT more tight and responsive.

just sold my 96 ls400 with air suspension with 160k, only replaced a sensor but ride was not smooth at that mileage. Just got a 2002 ls430 base model with 59k with leaky right rear shock with rattle going slowly over bumps. No local lexus dealer; midas wanted 900 to replace both rear shocks. Got oem shock myself from a lexus dealer for 120, had it installed for 60. Other three shocks are fine. Always worried about the 96 air suspension shock replacement, but they are still going at 160k. But it sure was easier to replace the base model non air shock on the 430.

aren't you supposed to replace shocks in pairs if it's non-air suspension? or is that struts? I don't know the difference. I know I had to replace 2 when one went out on my SC400.

Datasystem has been going wacky lately over the past two weeks. It started all after we had a big freeze here in Texas. Yesterday I unplugged the Datasystem while driving and the AFS light started blinking. Shut off the car, turned it back on, and the AFS light was still blinking. Shut off the car again and then plugged the Datasystem back in and car seems to be working normal again.

Ready to take the car to the dealership though.

My '02 has 147K on it and the left rear is leaking. This car has an incredibly smooth ride and I love the air suspension, until it comes time to replace it. I never figured this car would ever need struts replaced. I figured that this was a Japanese built car and had exceptional quality. Well they are getting sloppy... I had a '90 accord that was built in Japan and this was the best built car I've ever had. (I thought my LS430 was even better but it's not). The Honda had 265K miles on it when I gave it to a friend going to college about 11 years ago. Gas tires and oil was all it ever needed. The girl gave it to her parents about 5 years ago and they are still driving it and it's still perfect! I guess the quality from Japan in the 90's went away in 2000. Too bad.
