Is there some secret to programming the garage opener?

To answer the question regarding the 2nd and 3rd buttons, Yes you are right, they are programmed the same way as the 1st one.
My garage door opener came with a "brick" that plugs into a wall socket and then a lamp plugs into it.
I programmed button 2 to turn the light inside the house on/off.
