Exclamation Slight bump!

Uh-oh, today there was an incident regarding our LS 430. We had driven to the post office, and because of the holiday season there was a ton of traffic. Anyhow, we parallel parked next to the in front of the post office, and went inside.

As I got out of the post office, I noticed that the spot in front of our car was open, and there was a 1st generation Toyota Sienna with gray bumpers trying to parallel park in front of us. It was backing up in front of our LS 430, inch by inch, going slowly. I was rather nervous as we walked toward our car...I thought about moving more quickly but it was too late.

The Sienna backed up and its rear bumper touched the front of the LS 430, pushing the car back an inch or so! I ran to yell at the driver to stop, and she did. Turns out she was a senior citizen who understood only Chinese. She apologized and drove off...

We looked at the bumper and there seemed to be no damage...I ran my hand across the bumper and felt no scratches or any imperfections in the chrome/plastic covering...I checked around the headlights and there seemed to be no issue. When we started the car and left, Park Assist seemed to work normally...although it seemed rather extra sensitive, detecting cars in front of us while driving (today was really crazy, lots of cars too close to one another)...when we got home the Park Assist worked normally in the driveway.

...is there anything else I should check? The bumper seemed to do fine, I imagine that the LS 430 bumper is stronger than the Sienna one (we had a 1st gen Sienna, and the rear bumper seemed rather rubbery)...it also seemed that perhaps the Sienna bumper 'kissed' the forward license plate section mostly, leaving no visible impact...I hope we ended up ok.

Yeah I'm extra **** too about my car too. Your car seem to be fine. I'd just build up coats of wax to protect your paint from others that can't parallel park. Next time hit the panic button to stop them from backing up too close. A honking horn will stop them in their tracks. I have a pair of air horns added with stock that scares the ***** out of people

Thank you for the reassurance, and the horns are a good idea, lol.

I've never been so protective toward an automobile...but a Lexus is a different thing!

if it's just bumper kiss then it should be fine. not like she hit your car at 10mph.

but man, park elsewhere from now on

The air horn mod is easy to do and cheap. Only around $30 for a small compressor and 2 horns. Most auto part stores have them. I love the cross between luxury horn/euro horn sound. The high and low tones go great together.

Was it that important to mail all those Christmas cards? I don't think so!

You should be fine if she was inching along. You didn't smack her down, did you?
