that's why i refused to post in that thread. saying that the LS has no better features than the new IS is too much for me to take imho. yes the new IS has some new cool stuff, but LS is still holding its ground strong. throwing out the ultra package is funny, coz' if you just talk about base to base model, let's take a base is350 with nothing and see what you get -- not even hid.

i am not trying to deny that the IS is a very nice car with tons of new cool gadgets from lexus. my bottom is, i think it's totally meaningless to compare these two cars to begin with. almost just as extreme but it's like asking whether i should get a f430 or a s65.

LS hands down....I don't even own my LS yet and as impressed as I am by the new IS. The LS is not a fair comparison for a entry level fun sporty IS350. Two different leagues. I look at it the same way an older 7 (pre-Bangle)series grabs my attention more than the recently released 3 series. But you gotta go with your gut feeling, as it's your future purchase. Good luck and it's good that you posted this question as its always good to see activity in the LS430 side of things. We all know how the GS forum jumps off. I know it's a different kind of car (owner) but I'd love to see the LS430 forum reach that level of activity. As a non LS owner I love to read about the mods, experiences, complaints or whatever LS owners think about as it helps me get a better "feel" of the car.

I think that the big factor here is that the IS350 is a brand new car, and the LS430 is on the end of its life cycle. If you were comparing the IS350 vs. the future LS460, the LS would obviously win in hands down.

As a used LS400 owner I can say that buying a two year old LS430 would probely feel like owning a brand new car in many aspects including reliablity.

So the real question would be, do you need the extra room in the rear seats? For me, no one ever sits in the back of my LS, so I would hands down trade it in for a IS350, but if I was driving around friends or family, I would rather have the LS430. The beauty of being a Lexus owner is that we don't have to be 100% focused on which car would provide more prestigue. Imagine starting up the arguement in the MB forums on the 04' S500 vs. the 05' C55 AMG.

Hard to compare the "flagship" of Lexus with what's essentially Lexus's "entry-level" model. The LS just caters to a different demographic than the IS. I don't see many people cross shopping the S Class and C class, or the 7 series and the 3 series.

That being said, the picture of the LS you posted is the model prior to the facelift. Personally, I prefer the headlamps and tail lights of the newer LS, after the facelift.

I like to think that I'm not focused at all on prestige. I own a car because I like driving it and I appreciate the engineering and the way it does its job. In fact, I'd rather that the car is NOT overly desired by posers because I get painted with the "he wants a [fill in the name of poser car here] because that's what all of the ballers are driving" brush by people mature enough to see through that sort of BS shallowness.

seriously... there is no comparison.

LS hands down. maybe IS is a littlei quicker?? and maybe alittle more fun to drive but the quality of LS is just second to none..
