Default LS 430 conversion for speedometer

Does anyone have know where to get information on changing a US computer to a Canadian metric computer? Lexus says it can't be done. I find that hard to believe.

Are you trying to change the trip computer and odometer to read in kilometers instead of miles? Several people have asked how to do this on this and other Lexus forums and I have never noticed that anyone had an answer. I learned to translate back and forth between kilometers/litres and miles/gallons when I had a Euro spec Mercedes. It becomes effortless once you get used to doing it.

I have an '02 LS, but my wife has a '99 GX300, which was purchased in Canada, (Toronto - Don Valley North Lexus, to be exact), taken to California, and converted to Miles, then brought back to Canada (Calgary this time) and reconverted back to Kilometres, and now taken to Toronto where we live, where it is serviced once again by Don Valley North Lexus. A long, roundabout story to say Yes, it can be done. Either direction. The conversion was done from Miles to Kilometres by Stampede Lexus (now Lexus of Calgary) - if you need help I know the service manager well.

Thanks,

Yes, I would like his information. I have a customer that wants to buy his Lexus here in the states and take it over the border. He must, however, have it converted to be legal? Anyway, we do not do that here. I called Ontario and they told me I was crazy.

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe the speedometer etc. have to be converted to be legal, but I think your customer would have to pay GST/PST on the car when he brings the car to Canada, but check this URL and call the people who know.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/impusae.htm

and this one

http://www.tc.gc.ca/pacific/faq/road/importation.htm

and this one

http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html

and this one.

To then change the speedometer, I think you could call any reputatable Lexus dealer who could give you the information, but if you are stuck, email

alratani@lexusofcalgary.com (he's the service manager of Lexus of Calgary - great guy)

who did the modification for us. ( it was around $1000 Cdn)

Good luck!
