ok guys ...
its been about a week since i first complained about the gas mileage.
so, for this whole week, i reset the trip computer, and drove 99% city ... the only 1% is in Long Island Expressway cruising a short distance at 60 mph.
So, I really concentrated on driving, accelerating and slowing down ... hitting as few red lights as possible, and what not.
and guess what.... I only managed to get it up to 10.5 mpg !!!
Does anybody think the computer can make a mistake?
Anyways, tommorow will be my first long trip, driving down to Baltimore and back. After that, I will repost my mpg.

You can easily feel the low drag when you let go of the accelerator and let the car coast at
freeway speeds. The car does not slow down as much as other cars with higher Cd.

That has more to do with gearing then drag. The LS has 3.27's (my 98 does anyhow).
If you really want it to coast, put some 2.73's like on the old Chevy Caprice's, and it will coast forever.

alright guys ... just got back from a 500 mile day trip ..
NYC - Baltimore - Jersey - NYC.
average is 22 mpg... done mostly on NJ Turnpike, on cruise control setting between around 75mph.
Can't say whether Im pleased or not ... but as a friend said : you gotta pay to get V8 performance.

Yes true, but if you notice, if you let go long enough on the highway, it will eventually almost feel like it went into neutral; I’m guessing the torque converter unlocks.
Let go of the gas at 80Mph, and by the time you slowed down to 60, it will do this.

Drag is simply the amount of resistance the car has. The more sleek the shape of the car, the less drag the car will have. Simple aerodynamics.
Regarding the poor city mileage... and "does the computer make mistakes"...
Sure computers make mistakes. I'd fill the car up with gas, reset the trip odometer to 0 or note the actual odometor reading, drive your car around the city as usual and then fill up the car with gas again. This time note the amount of gas in gallons used. So, if you were able to drive 200 miles and put in 10 gallons of gas, you'd be getting 20 MPG (200 miles / 10 Gallons).

When I used to live in Philadelphia, the trip down to DC always has better gas mileage than the trip back to Philly.
I used to get about 17-18 combine and 23-24 mpg highway for my 93 SC400 in Philadelphia. Now I am getting about 9-10 driving in Las Vegas (all city driving). NY city driving is worse than Las Vegas so I guess your car is alright.
