Thumbs up Non-smoking kit

I had the ashtray replaced for the LS430 storage compartment by my dealer and I am loving it. It's a felt-lined compartment with a power supply that is ideal for my PDA so I can have a place to store it as I check my day's appointments as I drive in to work. Previously I had to put the PDA in the center console with the lid up or juggle it in my lap as I was driving.

Not cheap (uggh!) but as I hope to keep this car for 5 years+ it was worthwhile for me.

If you get it done remember to ask for the original ashtray kit back so when you sell the car you can offer it with both options.

Thumbs up

Very nice, is it just for the center console?
Do they come as a set that replaces the ashtray at the back as well?

thanks

Sweet. I'm going to do the same next service stop. Do you know the part number or name of that replacement kit?

Pictures of the storage console (apologies for the quality - camera phone).

Part number "5881050020E1-BOX ASSY, CONSOLE, U" at Lexus Parts (although I went through my dealer in the end).

I'm sure you know this but there's already a dedicated cell phone cubby on the 2004 (circled):-

Boy - not cheap is right - dealer near me quoted $226 plus tax & labor to replace. Not sure it is worth that much cost just to line where I stick my Blackberry when driving with hands-free microphone. Parts manager sent the diagram of it and it replaces the entire unit under the console.

Yeah, sounds about right.

To buy the part itself isn't much cheaper ($180.73 plus tax) and then you have the hassle of the install.

The way I look at it is I paid around $60k for the car - is it worth another $300 to get the interior the way I want it for the next 5 years?

I'm having trouble finding this replacement storage console kit anywhere online. The posts are now several years old on this tread. Nothing good comes from searching on the part number, 5881050020E1-BOX ASSY, CONSOLE, U, other than posts on message boards looking for them. lexus-parts.com doesnt have it anymore Does anyone know where to get one for a 2001 LS430 ? My interior wood trim color is the same as in the photos posted above.

I got mine from Sewell in Dallas online. There is a code to use for an additional discount via the Lexus club. Think it ended up at $190 or so. It literally took me 10 minutes to self install - very, very easy. There is a thread on it if you search - maybe find the code . It works great and gets rid of the ugly ashtray and lighter and replaces with a nice looking tray and powerpoint. Nobody is smoking in my car.

You need to call and give them your VIN number so they can tell you what color code to get - light or dark.

actually here is the post with the discount code -

Excellent News. I got in contact with Darrel from Sewell about a group buy.

He was kind enough to provide a direct link to the item. Now the best part...

Enter Promo Code: Baron

This will get you down from $217 to $175.

Hopefully you guys all take advantage of this so sewell will be more likely to give us additional discounts in the future for giving them bulk business.

Thanks again to Darrel.

Thanks so much jabberwock. I tested stepping through the buying process online and it didn't like the coupon code 'Baron'. I'll just call them on Monday and ask for Darell and mention ths club and the group buying.

One question for you-- when you pulled out the ashtray and put in the new kit, are the connectors such that it just plugs right into what's already there? Meaning, does the wiring under the console simply unplug from the cigerette lighter and plug right into the new kit with the power outlet? I'll search for instructions on how to install it.
