Talking Done Deal

Picked up my new LS430 Custom Lux last night - Wow - I am so pleased and excited to have it. Been sitting here since just after 3:30 a.m. reading the owner's manuals and watching severe storms roll around us with hail and winds. Glad the car is in the garage.

Thanks for all the advice, decided to buy as just didn't feel as good about leasing even though deal was very good. Sold the GS and will buy the MDX in Sept and keep it long term as kids first vehicle when they begin to drive in a couple of years.

Good move putting your kids in an MDX vs a Corolla as you had discussed. The problem is that EVERYONE ELSE is driving hulking vehicles. Corolla is probably safe enough IF EVERYONE ELSE were driving similar sized vehicles. But when you can and do **** away lots of bucks on vehicles ANYWAY (as I do too), why take risks with your kids?

Default Kids and Cars

Yeah, I just can't wait to pay for all the insurance, etc. with kids driving in the future. They will be signing the teenager contract and will pay a portion of the costs for any car they drive. I remember my first ride, a really hot '62 Chevy II Nova station wagon - now that was a really slick ride as a teenager's first car! I was the envy of absolutely everyone - not! But it was paid for and gas at 24 cents was cheap and easy on the wallet.

Actually, you may not believe it, but inflation has caused prices to be about 6x what they were in 1962. So that $.24 cent gas would be $1.44 today. So in real terms gas isn't that much more. And vehicles get double the miles per gallon, although suburban sprawl has us driving more miles so that's sort of a wash. My hope is that this is just another gas price spike and prices will come back to levels we are more used to, or at least close to that.
