Nav Icons '04 LS430
Hello all,
Took delivery of my new '04 LS430 last Thursday. Flint Mica, Ecru, Custom Lux, Smart Access, XM Radio. Love it!!!
But ... having some nav issues. Many of the POI icons are about 1/2 a mile or so from thier actual location. Usually on the correct road, but sometimes up to 1/2 mile North and sometimes up to 1/2 mile South. This isn't true of every icon. Some of them are exactly where they are supposed to be. But about 90 or 95% of the icons are in the wrong place. Is anybody else having this issue? Is there a fix?
I am in the Western Connecticut, Eastern New York area.
Thanks

The XM was negotiated as part of the "whole deal". I think initially the dealer said it would be "about $1,000" installed. But the individual option prices got lost in the final negotiations.
The antenna is mounted at the front edge of the trunk, in the middle. The color integrates pretty well with the Flint Mica. I don't think they painted it. It sort of looks like the flat trunk mounted antennas on some BMWs and Benz's of a few years back. To my eyes, it doesn't look too bad at all.

I'm in Atlanta and haven't noticed that problem, but to be honest I haven't looked that closely. I'll check it out and let you know. Are there certain catagories that it seems to be happening with or is it just random?
stanatl,
I have only turned on gas stations and restaurants since these are fairly easy to eyeball as I pass by and compare the actual locations with the nav icon locations. I have only had the car less than a week and have not yet been far from home, so all of my sampling has been within a 20 mile radius or so of home. So far, most of the icon locations are off - some by a few hundred feet, which would be acceptable, I guess, but some are off by more than half a mile, which I don't think is acceptable.
I am not unfamiliar with nav systems. I had a '99 GS400 with nav and my son now has a 2002 IS300 with nav and neither of these systems exhibited this problem.
My dealer says the nav mapping is now done by a new company for Lexus and their new address algorithm may be causing the problem.
I'm gald to hear you don't have the problem in Atlanta. My problem may be just local and if so, I'll just live with it since I know where everything is anyway. :-). But, were I to travel far with this level of resolution to an unfamiliar destination, I doubt I would find it if I am only directed to a point within a half mile radius.

My NAV is right on the money for intersections and underpasses, but is off about half a block for house numbers. I have an '04 LS430. Someone on alt.autos.lexus suggested that it's a calibration problem. It's not bad enough to make a special dealer trip, but when I get to 5000 miles (now at 3500), I'll have them look at it. A few others on alt.autos.lexus had the same complaint so it's not just you.
daryll40,
Thanks for the "not just you" comment. My nav, too, is right on for roadways and intersections. It's just the POI's that are off, but by significantly more than a block or two. I agree this is not a big issue and can wait until the first service.
This is my fifth Lexus and by far the best so far. All the other bells and whistles work to perfection and it's truly an enjoyable ride.

I am thinking about buying a 2004 LS430. I also live in CT. Were you able to negotiate much off sticker? Have you resolved your Nav problem? I am also thinking of getting the Nav system. I have driven BMW's for years and looking for a change. How do you like the new car?
