I can't answer your question, but for what it's worth, I can't tell the difference in sound on my new '04 LS430 with the Mark Levinson versus my old '03 "base" car with the "mere" base sound system.

Yeah, I think the Mark Levinson is waaay overblown (no pun intended). I will say that it has a very top notch sound stage but when it comes to the lower frequencies it sounds like one of those all-in-one stereos made by Emerson you buy at Woolworth for 100.00. (In other words, there ain't no low freqs) The "high-end" factory radio in my '02 Chevy S10 has better bass than my Lexus. Pathetic. But I digress. Go here for the locations of the 11 speakers (and yes, there are 11). http://www.marklevinsonlexus.com and click on "specifications". Here is a diagram:

I can't agree more. Those Mark Levinson systems are so sorely lacking in the bass, even the "base" systems often beat them.Originally posted by LS430inTX

The best stock systems I've listened to in the market right now have to be the Logic 7 systems found in the new 5 and 7 series. They're simply rich and dynamic in all the ranges, high and low.
We can only hope Mr. Levinson would soon wake up and put in the future Lexus's some real subwoofers.

My previous Volvo C70 has the Dolby ProLogic Surround built in, 400watts 14 speaker system. It kicks *** for a factory system.

Shoots. I'm profoundly hard of hearing, so I wouldn't know. But I love showing it off to my hearing friends. They all appear to be very impressed. I guess they're just being nice?
