Default LS430 brake measurements...please help

Hello,

I wanted to see if someone could help me out here as I'm trying to retrofit the LS430 brakes on my car. I need some measurements in order to research if this will work or not. The following measurements are what I'm looking for:

1. Offset of rotor. Measurement from the side of the rotor to the end of the hat (where it bolts to the wheel)
2. Caliper overhang. From side of the rotor or hat to the outside of the caliper. This is to find out how much the caliper sticks out from the rotor.
3. Braket mounting. Measurement from the center of each bolt to the other where it mounts to the suspension upright.

I can find some pics of what I'm looking for if someone is willing to help me find this out. If you are in the Seattle, WA area, I would glady take you out to lunch to take these measurements.

Thanks in advance for helping out a fellow Lexus owner.

Two questions for you:
1. What car are you trying to retrofit???
2. Why in the world would you want to do this???

It's for an IS300.

I want to see if it's possible to do because the LS430 uses a 4 piston monoblock aluminum caliper on a 12.4 inch rotor. It's also relatively cheap to get these parts, compared to a big brake kit like Stoptech, Brembo etc... I'm about 75% sure it will fit with minor mods, but with so few LS430 owners, it's hard to find out. I would rather not have to buy all the parts to then find out that there isn't even a chance.

4 pistons are definitely better then two.
However, you must consider the downside... Calipers and rotors are some of the major contributors to the "Unsprung Weight" of the car. This weight is your worst enemy as far as handling is concerned. Bigger bakes mean more weight when it comes to OEM parts.
Another consideration is the gains that you might get. Unless you are racing, you will never really notice any improvements in breaking. This is due to the fact that your car already has an impressive set of breaks that are more than adequate to handle anything you might throw at it during normal driving or even when you decide to go crazy behind the wheel.
So, for a questionable gain in breaking performance, you are willing to sacrifice your handling, your money and your time.
If I were you, I’d just take the money that this will cost, and take a Caribbean cruise.

Thanks for the concern.

The LS430 calipers are actually almost half the weight of stock ones as they are aluminum. They were reported to be 7.7 lbs. vs. 15 lbs. for the stock ones. The rotors are approximately 2lbs. more.

I take my car to local track days, so this should help me with some fading issues. The upgrade should cost less than $300-400 when it's all said and done, but you are right on the fact that it wastes a bunch of time to figure out if it will work and then the installation.

Any news on this?

They've been doing this in Japan lately. Since it's bigger than stock Supra brakes.

I'm probably going to do the same on a GS300.

I haven't been able to get anyone to help me with this. I may just buy some calipers and make measurements on my own, but this probably won't be for a while as it may just be a waste of money.

This would be an interesting project. Some places to possibly call: Stainless Steel Brake Co, Toysport and check the Toymods forums.

http://www.toymods.org.au/

No need to buy, a trip down to the Lexus parts counter to pull and compare parts. Easy to have them pull the IS and LS brake components for a side by side comparison and measurment. The parts guys I've dealt with when modding my past Toyotas have been helpful. May even consider the GS parts as well.

Sun, it's been done. I met a guy with it, here is a pic. It looked incerdible. If I remember, he said the major problem was shaving the kit to fit wheels. They also had to do some sort of custom bracket. The guy rarely is on any forum. Next time I see him at a show, I'll try to get him to post for us how it was done.

So it can be done.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to avoid making the custom bracket. Let me know if you get anymore info.
