Touchscreen or computer behind it keeps freezing
I have a 2004 UL with a Grom Vline2 installed — the car is otherwise stock. The unit has worked well, running CarPlay for over six months. Occasionally, it fails to boot, but restarting the car has always fixed it.This week, though, during a long trip, it failed to boot and didn’t resolve with a restart like usual. I ended up pulling the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, which reset both the Lexus system and the Grom. That worked — temporarily.
The next day, it failed again. This time, several other systems — HVAC, Menu, and Navigation — also stopped responding. I did the same fix (battery terminal pull), and everything came back up.
Here’s the thing: the problem seems to be happening more often now, and it’s affecting more than just the Grom — particularly the HVAC, which is worrying.
At this point, I’m thinking the issue might go beyond the Grom unit itself. I’ve got a 1,100-mile, two-day drive coming up, some of it through desert areas with temps around 108°F. I’ll have my wife and two dogs with me, and while I can live without the Grom, losing AC would be a huge problem.
I have read about touch screen failure in these cars, but worry my issue might be deeper than that. Anyone seen something like this or have any ideas?

Sorry, no. But given what I just posted about my 2005, you are brave to be taking a 20 year old car in an 1100 mile trip in 108 degree weather. I get that the car may be super-well maintained, but still... reliable as these cars are, there are still plenty of 20 year old parts in them.

I would try and disconnect the grom from system and hook back up original as that is most likely the problem. Are there any new apps you have put on and have you checked for software upgrade for grom?

You can try disconnecting the GROM VLine system, and reconnecting the factory cables. See if that will help.
