Any suggestions on trouble shooting the backup camera? i have searched my manuals , there is no mention of it.

If image is bad (streaky or lines or blank), camera is likely bad: rusted internally etc. I read that on a thread here when mine flaked out. Got a new one on ebay for $50-ish, paid a stereo installer 1 hour of labor, and fixed.

 

Same here. I took a look at someone else's camera after they replaced theirs and the internal corrosion was pretty bad.
3 months later my camera crapped out and I replaced it with a good condition used one.
On taking my old one apart it also was full of corrosion.

i have no image at all when i put it in reverse.

 

Same as mine and others.
There is no troubleshooting you can do. It works or it doesn't.
Get a known working used camera and swap it out. Plenty on Ebay.
You can test with it plugged in and dangling before you bolt it in.
