Beware of the Sensitive SmartKey!
I left a couple of my extra Smartkeys in a drawer with other items and twice I had come out to the garage to find all the windows open and the moonroof wide open...
It seems the new LS has a feature where if you press and hold the unlock button for 3 seconds, the entire car opens up...Probably not something you want to happen unintentionally or in inclement weather. My dealer informed me it is a feature to help cool the car before you get in, on a hot day.
The keys, have since been moved.

If I am going to some place were I know I'll use the valet parking, I will carry the valet keys with me (or my wife will put them in her purse). Otherwise, I leave them at home. If someone broke into my car I would not want any keys laying around for them to drive off.
BTW, I don't usually use valet parking, I don't like strangers driving my car

I have an '04 with Smart Access and was told by the dealer that the chip in the Smart Access key is read by the ignition, so even if the remote battery goes dead you can still start the car by putting the Smart Access key in the ignition.

Should
Remote starts lets you start the car without the smart key. Therefore if the battery dies in the smart key it should still start. Other problems may happen. Getting into the locked car because smart key battery is dead. You would have to open the door with the metal key then insert the smart key into the ingition turn it on so the car doesn't die when you put your foot on the brake to put it in drive.Just like you do with a standard remote key car I think! Heck I am almost mixed up hehe.
