GPS shows Washington DC
I've got a 2004 LS430 and the Nav player went out. I replaced the unit with a used one, turned it on and it shows Washington DC and I live in San Diego. I went to the screen where you reset the area and pressed 2 to change it to SoCal and it shows (illuminates) that region selected. I start the car and I'm back to Washington DC. HELP.
The new unit probably came from the Eastern US and has the Eastern US CD-R in it. Your old unit has the Western US CD-R in it. Hopefully, you still have the old unit.
If you still have your old unit, you need to remove the CD-R, and swap/load it into the new unit. You going to have to unplug the new unit, re-install the old unit to get the old CD-R out of it.
Attached are are the instructions that came with an original updated map data CD-R I purchased from an ebay seller. Just follow Section II. You can skip step 5.
TBH, the last update for the CD-R based navigation system was Version 13.1; this was around 2015. Even with the latest data CD-R, the maps are woefully obsolete.
