Misc Data on Serenity '06 LS 430
Both trunk hinges went to rust. Must be made out of an alloy that is prone to rusting. I found 2 online with good factory struts purchased for $135.00. Painted them and installed. The trunk shot lines are perfect again.
Refurbished the foam surround on the Mark Levinson subwoofer in the back deck. Fellas, the foam surround job is truly a 1 hour plus 24 hour wait for the glue to set. Getting the sub out of where it is is a reason Lexus service centers get a bad name. Toyota made this simple procedure as hard to do as they could. Was quoted over 2 grand for the job to be done by them. If you care, here is the diy I did.
With plastic interior tool remove the subwoofer screen.
Cut about 1/2 inch inside the lines impressed by the covering screen. A new and sharp box cutter works fine.
Lift the back deck a tad if necessary or trim a bit more to get at the 4 10mm bolts. Be careful extracting the bolts.
Release the wire harness plug to the sub. Press down on the clip and pull. It is tight and tough to get to but can be done.
Extract the sub and its complete housing. Again, you are not in the best spot but I am old and got it done with no blood.
Place the sub on the bench and release the 4 Torx screws to gain access to the speaker cone/surround. (Torx, Really? another jab a stealership system)
A company has the EXACT surround needed with a glue kit and great instructions. Once you have done one speaker refoam, you will be pissed you threw out those old pioneers, advents etc etc.
The company is "Simply Speakers" $22.00. That is all you will have to spend.
Give the sub glue a whole day then replace refitted unit back in the car. Orientation is simple, line up the wire connection bracket. Snug it down and do be careful with the bolts. Dropping one it might end up in hell.
Enjoy what is undeniably one of the very best stock systems ever found in a car,
for $22 bucks.
