Default Possible to install keyless entry (smart access) on LS430?

edit: here are some pics to clarify what I’m talking about. The top pic is what I want to install, the bottom is what I currently have.

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time on helping me or just here to read along. My general understanding is that the pre-facelift (01-03) never came with keyless entry in North America for some reason, while jdm and euro specs did! I am extremely furious my UL 2001 doesn't have it lol. I know someone personally in the UK who has it on their 01' and he was surprised that the American spec LS' didn't come with it. Does anyone know why it didn't come equipped with it? And if possible, what is required to retrofit it?? I understand I would need the door handles with the buttons, the key, new keyless ignition, and sorts of other computers. Would I need an ecu that is compatible, or would mine already be? Thanks, if anyone can shed some light it'd be much appreciated!

You're in luck, because it's possible.

Ever heard of Vais Technology? They made a lot of parts that work with the radio on Toyotas and Lexis's, and they make a kit that allows a passive key system to be installed in pretty much anything. Not sure what's involved to put it in, but their office is not too far from my house and I looked at one of them in person when I was in there once. It seems like a pretty nice system. You may try contacting them:

haha 😂, well yes I have to press the unlock button on my key fob. The keyless entry I’m referring to is the type where the car automatically unlocks when I touch the door handle. Hope this clears things up! It was offered on the pre facelift (01-03) in Japan and Europe but only on the facelift (04-06) in North America for some reason. Even tho North America is their main market!! Can you believe that?!

I dunno if it's worth going aftermarket, I had compustar 2 way alarm, remotes for many years, they always have parasitic drain. It was always a hassle to keep the car charged if you don't drive it often. I think it would run the battery flat in about 3 weeks.

this isn’t after market. It’s an OEM option! 😆

It is almost certainly possible, but you are going to need a whole load of computer modules, wiring looms, and new door handles and keys not to mention a new ignition switch.
Then you will need to get it all to communicate with itself and with the rest of your car.

WAY easier and undoubtedly cheaper to just buy an 04-06 with SmartKey already installed.
