The steering wheel on my LS is deteriorating and I need to put a cover on it, OR replace it. I think the cost of replacement will probably be too much. so have any of you ever used one of the aftermarket covers. I am afraid to order one of the "Universal" kits because I dont want it to be tacky looking.
Here is a thread from this site with a cool aftermarket option called Silk Blaze. Sounds like the wood is plastic but they look nice and I would love it if our steering wheels were thicker, which these appear to be: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...ng-wheels.html
You could get a professional re-wrap, which is expensive, but still wayyy less than the $1200 for a new OE wheel (and that's a Bell price).
Here is a quoted post from someone, @sr20mofo , on this site in 2013. I don't know if they are still in business: theres a company in texas that specialize in reconditioning the steering wheel to new for less than $500. this includes the leather and any cracks or discoloration of the wood. they even have a diy vid on how to take ur steering wheel apart.
Might we worth checking with a local leather worker to see of one can be custom made. The old one would be a great template for a new one. Just need the right leather sample - they should be able to get it. You will find them at local craft fairs, farmers markets, or ask around - e.g., at upholstery shop, custom furniture maker, high end auto detailer, or using a web search. That is what I would do if I was in jimisbell's situation, as I know of a good one a few miles away.

In case anyone from Australia is reading this and needs their steering wheel reconditioned:
Just in case anyone from Australia ends up searching this topic here is a link to an Australian supplier (East Coast Caves Beach NSW post code 2281) that has been given a good review:
If you have a LS430 then it is highly likely that your the wood on your steering wheel has cracked and deteriorated. This happened to me and I have just had my steering wheel completely restored by a company in Caves Beach NSW called Fendertrim Australia and the results are exquisite. All the wood and leather completely redone and matched to the original wood.
The cost was $A880.
I highly recommend their service.
