Ticking sound from engine
Hello guys
I do need some help. I bought an LS430 quite cheap, but it did have a ticking noise. The guy who sold it to me told me it was the valve clearance. It did sound like it came from under the camshaft, and I used a tool to hear where it came from. When I took the tool on the exhaust manifold it sounded like it came from there. I changed the exhaust manifold on the driver's side where the sound came from. I did not take the engine out as it says in the manual. Just so you know it's possible without taking the engine out, but a lot of work.
I then started it up excited to not hear any ticking sound. But I was wrong, it was still ticking. That was disappointing, 15 hour job and 1000 USD in parts.
Now I have bought a new head gasket kit and I am ready to check the valve clearance. I also bought valve stem seals to have replaced while I do the job.
I am going to check all the lifters.
I was wondering if it could be anything else I should check while I am in the engine, so I don't have to open up the engine again and get new gaskets.
Like piston rings maybe?
The ticking noise follows the RPM.
Listen to the audio attachment to hear the ticking sound. First few seconds above the car, then underneath.
Apart from the ticking noise the engine is running smooth, accelerates well, and has a stable RPM at idle.
The engine was running on LPG back in the day, but it was switched back to petrol.
I have changed the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and fuel injectors as well.
Thanks in advance!
