Default 95LS400- Coolant Temp Sender Sensor

95 LS400. Coolant temp sender sensor replaced. It does not thread in all the way. Threads appear tapered. Is my sensor installed correctly being not threaded in all the way as shown in pics? (Old sensor appears to not have been threaded in fully either as per threads appearance dirty/clean)

Before i replaced temp sender sensor, temp gauge was stuck on low/cold. After sensor replaced temp gauge shows 1/4 for temp gauge. Thermostat and coolant temp sensor new.

I think issue may be potentially in my gauge cluster? Any other suggestions welcome. But also would like confirmation if the sender sensor appears installed correctly. (Seems funny it not threading in all the way)

Edit: Also infrared temp gun showing 70-80deg Celsius at coolant water outlet and at temp sensor areas.

And PS. CEL is on for o2 sensor....soon to be fixed as well.

After sender sensor raplaced:

That is tapered and self seals you don't bottom the threads out. You did it right. Did you replace the one for the EFI computer or gauge cluster? They look almost the same. edit - I see one wire on the connector that is for the gauge cluster.

Your thermostat may be lazy it's likely worn out if original.

The thermostat has been recently changed, so has coolant temp sensor, and coolant temp sender (which is the sensor i have pictured).
Thanks for confirming its seated properly. That was as far as it went threading it in firmly.

Also, if you look at my temp gauge needle in the photo where its at max cold, is that point lower than it should be? Is my needle sitting too low at max cold? Perhaps its the actual gauge/needle not reading accurately.

It could be I recently worked on a Solara that has this problem the needle worked normally until it got to about 1/3 then wouldn't move any higher. You can test this by temporarily running a ground wire through a light bulb and the connector that goes to the gauge (one that normally plugs into the sensor) and see if the needle pegs to the top.

Why is your CEL light on?
