Just curious if anyone out there might have an extra intake camshaft for the left side head, not sure if it matters which side as long as it's the intake camshaft, this is for a 1998 Lexus LS400 VVT-i 1UZ-FE

Or if anyone knows good places to purchase a camshaft for this model engine and car lemme know, trying to see if I can find cheaper then what the dealer offers.

 

You need just the cam not the variable valve assembly or gear? FYI the intake cams are not the same* you have to get the specific one, I would try finding one at a salvage yard.

*they might be but have different part numbers so you could find out the hard way they are not the same.

I have one or two laying around. As far as I can tell there are only two VVTi camshafts. They have a paint mark as described in the repair manual. It all has to do with how the VVTi actuator attaches and the bearing size. I did a lot of painful research while looking for a L side intake camshaft for my 2000 LS400. A 1999 junkyard motor I bought had the wrong cams in it for my 2000.

Let me know what paint marks you have. I'll go refresh my memory on which ones I have.
