Default Auto climate control is no longer automatic

98' with NAV

For years I've just left the system on automatic at 71 degrees and basically never touched it, winter or summer. But now that we're getting into colder weather, I've noticed that my car wasn't really warming up properly.

I've had to manually set the temperature to 75, 78, 80! degrees a few times because the car was too cold. The system feels like it's reading 10 or 15 degrees too hot and not warming up the car properly.

When I do manually raise the temperature, heat does come out rapidly and it will warm up. Cabin air filter is a few months old, it's flowing perfectly fine.

Any ideas? Thanks!

On the max cold setting the recirculation setting is on, IE the recirculation door is open. When you increase the temperature the recirculation door is closed unless you press recirculation again. You likely have a blend door issue that is stuck on full heat. Do the AC diag through the climate control and check for codes using an OBD2 scanner. If it is a blend door issue, likely the dash has to come out. Try to hit recirculate when the temperature is increased and see if your ac still stays cold.

I tried troubleshooting the blend door step and it didn't seem to change anything. Recirc, A\C on and off, fresh air only, doesn't change much.

Car doesn't have any OBD codes.

If the solution\troubleshooting involves pulling the dash - then I guess it is the way it is because there's no way I'm doing that.

I would start with reading through attachments to see if there's any fault codes.

You might have to determine what the true ambient temperature is and compare that with the temperature setting of the HVAC system to see how far off they are.

Default Check Interior Temperature Sensor

Possible contributing factor are interior temperature sensors that are expired, tired or coated with dust..

I believe total of two or three sensors...
(Anyone who can clarify number)

See;

LS400' s are populated with electrolytic capacitors...16 year life expectancy...

See; (your control is different?)
